Procrastination... Is Bad.

  • Listening to... Goldfinger

Yesterday was a very good day.  I haven't had such a good day in a very long time.

My day began at 4:40 A.M.  Due to my extreme procrastination skills which sometimes have side-effects of nervous breakdown-like symptoms, I could not function to do my homework Thursday night.  The remainder of the Intervention questions for U.S. History took 15 minutes and then I had approximately one hour to do my Art History assignment.  I had to write down some things about eight artworks depicting war.  My paper is relatively sloppy, but I finished by 5:50, and then I only had to write the short creative writing portion of the assignment.  I thought of myself as one of the lonesome guys in The Burning of Sanjo Palace, since that was the one that made me think the most.  I wrote that I was alone and melancholy even though we were victorious (It depicts some fighting during a civil war in Japan.) because I had killed my own people.

I was finishing up my blurb in homeroom, when I realized that the Principal's Breakfast was to start at 7:25, as opposed to 7:30, so I had to skedaddle from homeroom and finish writing elsewhere elsetime.

!! ELSETIME, at another time.  Use like ELSEWHERE.

I saw Alyssa when I came in so I sat with her.  We talked about the paper-covered cafeteria tables and the flowers, and decided that they had gone all-out this time.  I was pretty sure that they did not normally cover the tables like this.  They did, however, always have orchestra students playing for us.  I was not hungry so I decided not to go for a tasteless bagel like I usually do at these breakfasts.  Instead I only got myself a cup of water.  Then I talked to Jillian about The Great Gatsby, which I did not read, and she sort of summarized it for me.  Her summary was broken due to several interruptions.  Then I returned to my seat next to Alyssa.  I finished my Art History assignment, and Alyssa M's dad, who was sitting to my left, commented that my printing was excellent.  I confessed that I actually took time to practice it in the 6th grade.  Our guest speakers at the ceremony were the Teachers of the Year, Mrs. Carchidi and Mrs. Esposito.  They did not say much.  However, the breakfast ran into second period, which was pretty sweet.

I entered F-11 using my certificate as a pass and before I even sat down I was answering questions with the rest of the class.  We finished the lesson at 9:00 and therefore we had 10 minutes to finish the homework.  I was able to finish in less than 10 minutes and then I approached MsBout about when I would make up the Trig Identities quiz.  I said that I could not do it today because I was already taking a Physics test, and Monday she was going to be at a workshop, and we settled for Tuesday except then she realized there was a faculty meeting, and I said we could do it Wednesday but that's my birthday.  So now my makeup date is TBD.

In Physics, I confirmed that I would be making up my test that afternoon.  Then Mrs. Hornibrook gave me a prelab sheet and said that I would not have points taken off for not having it done today.  For 35 minutes she explained the circuits lab to us.  RED TO RED OR YOU'RE DEAD, which she interpreted as if we screwed up Mr. Wright would kill us.  I will not deny that I would be afraid if Mr. Wright were infuriated with me.  Then we started to work with the materials just to get familiar with them since there were only 10 minutes left.  Chris is in my lab group and he was working with Mrs. Hornibrook the day before with the circuits so he knows what he's doing, although he likes to experiment a lot so sometimes I'm a little wary of him during labs.

Gym class consisted of volleyball and sit-and-reach.  I used to be marvelously good at sit-and-reach but this year I only managed to get 38.  That is a 2.5 out of 3, but still.  I used to be relatively flexible.  But now I am an unfit blob due to my laziness and binge eating.  Volleyball was actually fun, and I think I put in more effort today than I did during the volleyball unit.

I had not read The Great Gatsby for English so I felt bad.  All week my English work has been mediocre or worse, and since Mr. Lawler is my favorite teacher this year, and I think he's really good, I felt quite ashamed.  I asked him what I missed the day prior and he gave me the research paper packet and a question sheet.  He had probably given my papers to Kyle or Jillian to give to me the next day, but they were both on the NHS field trip to the middle schools.  I remained eerily quiet during the period and tried to remain unnoticed so that I would not have to answer any questions about the novel, since I was only on page 12.  It worked.  I did not have to speak all period.

Spanish was for once relatively fun.  Kim showed us how to draw an elephant and a dog with a Spanish explanation.  We wasted some time with the marker boards and then with 15 minutes remaining we started the listening quiz.  We only managed to finish half, which I expected, since I told Sra. Dagostino, "No hay suficiente tiempo."  And I was right.  And she knew I was right.  But we had to start anyway.  She collected the half-finished quizzes.

On the way to Art History, I barged into the bespectacled t-shirt-and-jeans-clad Holmsie's classroom.  I said hey.  He turned around in his chair and we talked, as usual.  I informed him that I had to take a Physics test after school because I did not take it yesterday.  He seemed to believe that staying after to take a Physics test is highly unpleasant but said that at least it's gross outside.  He told me that he was supposed to run in a race on Saturday,  but if the weather were still like this he was not going to participate.  "They can keep my $20!" he said.  He also said he was going to spend his weekend preparing stuff for the AP class.  Then I admitted, "I've determined I need to stop procrastinating."  And as we were walking down the hallway -- to Art History and to the faculty room -- we discussed procrastination habits.  He does the most appealing things first and then is always stuck with the worst thing at the last minute.  I told him I just sit around thinking about procrastinating and for how long I can procrastinate.  He said, "You take procrastination to new levels," which is precisely how I phrase it.  So I told him he was exactly right.  And I explained that I really need to stop procrastinating because I get really stressed out, as you have probably realized by now.

In Art History, Koosh gave the class a few minutes to regroup and discuss the rest of the artworks.  I was already done since I did it for homework like she told me to.  I asked if I could go to my locker to get my assignment sheet while they were working because I left it there.  I clacked down the hallway in my furry heeled boots that I like mucho and I went to my D-Hall locker.  At first I could not find my assignment book and then I realized it was at the top of my locker.  Then I returned to class, enjoying my trek through the vacant halls listening to the sounds of my footsteps reverberating throughout the Core.  After I returned, we all sat around one table and discussed the artworks.  Everybody grouped the artworks the same way, although I was the only one who saw The Burning of Sanjo Palace of illustrating the horrors of war, as opposed to glorifying it.

As Mary and I were walking to U.S. History, we met up with Britt in the hallway.  Mary told Britt, as I had just told Mary, that C-Way's birthday was the other day.  She couldn't believe that he didn't tell us.  When we walked into the room, she yelled at him for not informing us that it was his birthday, he said it was ages ago.  I exclaimed, "It was two days ago!"  Then Britt started singing, and he made her stop.  The beginning of class consisted of yelling about his birth on Pi Day.  Then he put up the notes that the class had copied on Thursday and talked about them, while I wrote them down.  Toward the end of class, Jillian, Michelle, and Molly interrupted class.  Also, an announcement came on that all after-school activities were cancelled.  They told me that they saw my brother.  Then I said loudly, "You're disrupting our class!  Kick 'em out, Callaway!"  At the very end of class, Kyle showed up.  He was handing in his homework.  Then we talked and walked together, as we typically do after History.  On the way out I wished C-Way a happy belated birthday.  Kyle told me about the teachers he saw at CRMS, and that Mrs. Banks wasn't there.

I went to D-8 after going to my locker, and Adam was in there to finish up his test.  I said to Mrs. Hornibrook, I was hoping the cancellation of activities included my Physics test.  She said, "Sure!" and said I could take it Monday.  Then she extended that to Adam, and he immediately handed back the test.
