Going to school on Junior Cut Day was AMAZING. I had so much fun.
Before homeroom, after going to my locker, I strolled down D-Hall to see if Mrs. Hornibrook was in her classroom so I could ask her if she would be staying in her room during the extended homeroom instead of going to the movie event. I saw her walking down the hall, and I met her. She said that she probably was going to stay in and surveyed the cluster of her homeroom students that were chatting at their lockers. They said that they'd want to stay in homeroom, and one of the girls went to get Ice Age: The Meltdown. So I went to Mrs. Tomlin, who has been in for Mr. Cullen, the Florida partier, and said that I had to go see my physics teacher so I could "understand physics." I then returned to D-7. A couple of girls did not want to stay, and I think they wound up either going down with another teacher or they went somewhere else. Cotton said that he wanted to watch Glory Road but he wound up staying. He asked, "Can I drive home and get my X-Box?" Mrs. Hornibrook was like, "I can't let you do that!" She brought the laptops in so we could do whatever, as long as it was appropriate. All the inappropriate sites were blocked anyway, as Martha pointed out. We also ate doughnuts while Ice Age was playing. They were Entenmann's. I got myself a laptop and did some minor research on the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle and emailed the information to myself. Then I did some message boarding and finally just settled down and watched the movie. When it ended, I copied some information from the board for the lab. Howie and Mrs. Hornibrook were trying to make a motor out of wire, a double A battery, and a magnet. Howie told me to come up and look because I would be interested. The motor did not work very well. They concluded that the magnet was not strong enough. Then the other kids who left came back, and soon enough the extended homeroom ended.
I went to my locker to get my pre-calc stuff because I thought MsBout might make us do stuff in class, like work on problems. Then I strolled through the hallways to a vacant little B-Hall and found that the door to B-21 was locked and the classroom was dark. Jeff showed up right as I was discovering this, and we stood around for a couple minutes. We decided that if a sub didn't show up by the time class was supposed to start, we would leave. And we did. We walked through Quay Way and headed toward the IMC. When we got there, we explained that we had no teacher and so we came there. The librarians told us that we should probably go to the office to tell them what happened in case a sub did show up, so we wouldn't be marked absent. We re-checked B-21, still dark, so we went to the 11/12 office. We told them what happened and after a while, they told us that we should go to B-25. Only it was the last room in little B-Hall and it was scary, so we decided not to go in. So we went back to the Core and thought about going into the IMC but decided just to wander the halls instead. We talked about MsBout the mathematician and stuff like that. When we got to the end of the Core, we decided to go upstairs because there was a police officer in front of the cafeterias, who we said would check our pass. I said that we could talk to Holmes, and Jeff liked that idea. So we knocked on the door and went inside. Holmes asked, "What's up?" I said, "Nothing! Absolutely nothing!" and we explained the lack-of-teacher situation. He said, "I don't blame ya!" when we said that we did not want to go to B-25, since it was scary. After our brief explanation, he said, "Take a seat!" Jeff sat in the first normal seat in the front row of desks, and I sat on the desk. He asked us what sciences we were taking next year. I said, "AP Chem. And AP Physics." I had already told him that once before but it was OK. He was like, "Good." Jeff said that he was signed up for AP Physics but his schedule isn't exactly finalized yet. He told Holmes that he and his friend were both going to take it, but Mr. Wright told her not to take it, because she was absent a lot and she doesn't like to do her work. We talked about how you just can't be absent all the time if you take AP classes. I remarked, "Unless it's Callaway's." Holmsie elaborated that in AP Chem he taught about 5 times more of organic chemistry than he taught us all last year in one week. Then we started talking about people taking hard classes even though they're lazy. Jeff commented that Martha wanted to take AP Euro even though she doesn't do work. We said that she's not dumb but she just doesn't do any of her work. Although I did say that she got more points from the curve on her midterm than she did on the test. Jeff asked if it was the "Texas Curve," as he called it, which it was: the square root multiplied by ten curve. Then Holmes said he hoped that we would have teachers in our next classes. He asked who we had, and Jeff said Saia, and after not paying attention for a moment I said, "Mrs. Boutilier." So then the period ended. Mr. Holmes started talking to these two girls at the door, who were talking about how good he was at the March Madness game. Jeff and I didn't know what to do, since we had to get out. After a few moments, Jeff said, "...I guess I'll go out that door" and headed toward the back of the room. I started shortly after him. Mr. Holmes finished talking and wheeled back into the room and said bye. Only when I was halfway through the classroom, I stopped, turned around, and exclaimed, "Guess what I'm doing my physics project on!" I turned my database printouts toward him like he could read them. "The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle!" He was like, It's a combination of physics and chemistry! I said, "That's why I picked it!" Then I disappeared out the back door and almost hit some kids.
I found Liz and Howie just standing out in the hallway outside of F-11 for seemingly no reason. I went in and dropped off my books, and Liz was like, "You brought your books!" Five of us showed up. Beth, Matt, and I worked on a jigsaw puzzle of penguins on MsBout's desk while Howie and Liz got really into the game that MsBout showed them. At the end of class, MsBout started talking like it was fourth period and confused us all.
Then it was off to physics where there were only three third period students: Martha, Jenny, and me. But Matt N. showed up too. We sat around chatting with Mrs. Hornibrook. I said that I was going to be all alone in Art History, but I was going to go hang out with MsBout then. Matt started telling me how MsBout had a jigsaw puzzle on her desk, and I was like, "I know." Then it dawned on him that I was there too, lol. I was like, "I was like a foot away from you for the whole period and you didn't notice!" Lol. Matt tried to get the motor to work. I told Mrs. Hornibrook about my fascination with quantum mechanics even though I have no idea what's going on. At the end of class we talked about how we liked Einstein's Big Idea because of the way they flirted by talking about science. I confessed that I could probably be won over by that. "...F equals ma." "See you in the bedroom."
In gym class we did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Chew didn't even show up. Martha sat on the bleacher with Melissa, and I stood the whole time. Breonna missed a shot and punched the ball and almost hit Martha in the face. Martha said if it was Brianna she would have punched her in the face. Then Martha decided to lie face down on the bleacher. Melissa pushed her over, and then Martha tried to hit her, but she was too far away.
Seven people showed up to English, and we were expecting to see Cristina there because I had seen her earlier. Kyle turned on Monthly Rewind, and we watched that. He gave me a grape. Anyway, Monthly Rewind was... unique. They had very random stories like the Baby Project and Dodgeball.
Spanish was pretty much nothing. Only Emilia, Sonia, and I were in attendance. Emilia played her DVD of her presentation so Sra. Dagostino could tell her some suggestions and whatnot. It was quick. Then we got our new textbooks. Emilia and Sonia were looking at the names and then came across one with my brother's name in it. They said, "Will -- any relation?" I said, "Yeah, he's my brother." So I got that book. They asked how old he was. I told them he's 22. I forget why but I mentioned that he's student teaching right now, at Chestnut Ridge. Emilia and Sonia started looking for books that were once in the possession of people they knew/liked.
I went to Art History, where I knew nobody else would be. Some little underclassman came in and he asked me if I knew where Mrs. Cushane was. I told him I didn't know and asked if she was here today. He thought for a moment and said yeah. Just then Mrs. Cushane walked in. I informed her that nobody else would be coming. Shortly after the announcement was made for class to start, I was still standing by my desk. Koosh asked, "Do you wanna... do something or go somewhere?" I told her that I could go to my pre-calc class, because they were doing stuff and people would be there. She wrote me a pass. I walked halfway down the Core and went downstairs and skulked outside of G-108, where Kyle was. He looked up almost immediately and then came to the door. He said he didn't know if he could get out. Then he decided he would just ask to go to the bathroom. Then he exited. He strolled after me so it wouldn't look like he was running off with me. He said he just asked the sub, "Can I go?" and was not specific about anything. He wanted to see if Cardy was around because we haven't seen her in forever. So we went down the Core and H-Hall and up those stairs. She was teaching, however. We could hear her voice. So we didn't want to bother her because it would be awkward. Mr. Faust's room was dark so we couldn't talk to him, either. We headed back into the Core. I passed Holmes's room and said that he was a liar, since he told me that he wouldn't be around 7th period. I parted with Kyle at the stairs so he could return to class, and I then barged into Holmsie's room and exclaimed, "You liar." He turned around in his chair and said that he didn't know his wife had packed his lunch. He said it was a nice surprise. Then he told me to take a seat. I sat on the desk again. He told me about his weekend plans to see his parents and he asked what I planned to do. I said, "Physics project." He asked if I just had to know what was going on with the uncertainty principle. I was like, "Yeah, I have to make a presentation." Then he started talking about how he was going to see his family again and how he might stay over two nights, he might not. I said that I didn't know what I was going to be like when I grew up, since I avoid interacting with my parents at all. He was like, Well everyone's different and you'll figure it out when you're older. He talked about how he lives close enough that he can visit them often enough but still far enough away, while one of his brother still lives pretty much in the same town. Then he said the status of his younger brother was TBD because he just graduated college and is still living with his parents, but his girlfriend is from northern PA and he might want to go to graduate school. Then he started talking about how Township was basically a perfect match for him, because he liked the quick city-access and the quick shore-access. He also liked the suburbia feeling, and then Twp was just so good for him because he could teach exactly what he wanted, chemistry, and he had the opportunity to be the coach for the freshman basketball team. He told me, You're going to be teaching whatever you want at a great public school. He talked about how one of the teachers who helps out with the basketball team sometimes went to Twp and now she teaches with all her former teachers. I said that I would LOVE to teach at Twp because I love the place, and I love the faculty. He was like, Well, y'know, look around and some of the teachers are a little bit older, and maybe by '12 one of them would be retiring, and even if they weren't, there still could be an opening. I've gotta say, if I could come back and work with some of these people, it would be AMAZING.
Then I went to U.S. History and I was slightly late because Holmes and I were still talking after the announcement. Then Kyle still wanted us to see if we could catch Cardy, so I said to Chemistry McBride, "We have to go see our science teacher real quick." And he was like okay. So we trekked across the entire building again and had the same conversations at the same places. When we passed the gym Kyle started talking about Mr. Dempsey and the test. Then we got very close to crashing into Mrs. Holmes who didn't say hi although we were both prepared to say hi. I suggested that maybe she just doesn't recognize us as Freshman Transition Counselors. Cardy was not in her dark room. I exclaimed frustratedly. Mr. Faust was not around either; there was a sub. Then we went through the Core again, and Kyle said, "Science Office," and we talked about wearing lab coats again. Then we returned to A-18 and Chemistry McBride didn't care that we weren't around for so long. We watched Happy Feet.
I don't know the answer to any of those questions. It is the work of Lillyan, on our Flame Test Lab quiz from last year, on which we scored a 19/25, which also explains the "arbitrary point deduction" that is now the comment link.
